One soldier was killed and five were injured in J&K‘s Poonch on Saturday after their security vehicles were fired upon by terrorists.

The officials said the firing was reported from the Sanai village of Surankote and reinforcements from the Army and police have been rushed to the area. A gunfight ensued between the suspected terrorists and security forces near a government higher secondary school in Gursai Moori of Medhat sub-division in Poonch.

The injured soldiers were taken to Udhampur Command Hospital where one succumbed to his injuries. 

“An Indian Air Force convoy came under attack by militants in J&K’s Poonch district near Shahshitar. Local army forces are currently conducting cordon-off and search operations in the area. The convoy has been secured. Further investigation is underway,” the IAF said in a statement.

When the terrorists armed with AK assault rifles opened fire, several bullets penetrated the front and side windows, hitting one of the trucks in the convoy and fleeing into the nearby woods. It appears that he did so, officials said.
