Posting the image on social media, the palace said: “Happy 9th Birthday, Princess Charlotte! Thank you for all of the kind messages today.”

The photo was taken by the Princess of Wales.

About a week ago, new photos of his younger brother Prince Louis were also published on social media. This image, also taken by the Princess of Wales, was shared on April 23 to mark the young queen’s sixth birthday.

Prince George, the eldest son of Prince William and Duchess Kate and second in line to the throne after his father, will celebrate his 11th birthday on July 22nd.

The past few months have been turbulent for the family since Duchess Kate and King Charles were diagnosed with cancer.

The future queen announced in a video message on Instagram in March that she would be undergoing preventive chemotherapy.

Charlotte, third in line to the throne, attends co-educational private school Lambrook, near Ascot in Berkshire, where she loves dancing, especially ballet and tap.

She has a reputation for being more active than her older brother George, and the Princess of Wales describes Charlotte as a “decision-maker”.

Her Charlotte’s middle names, Elizabeth and Diana, are derived from the late Queen and Charlotte’s grandmother, Princess Diana.
