Greece has received multiple warnings from foreign intelligence agencies that Iran may attack Israeli interests in holiday hotspots.

According to a report in the daily Kathimerini, the Greek Secret Intelligence Service (EYP) received intelligence that Tehran or Iran-backed terrorist groups may attack the country.

A spokesman for the Greek Ministry of Civil Protection said “alertness is growing.”

Since the war began last year, Israelis have been gradually moving away from other European holiday hotspots, making Greece an increasingly popular travel destination.

“We’ve seen a drop in bookings not only to Turkey but also to countries like Ireland, France and Spain,” said Yoni Waksman, vice president of Ophir Tours.

“Israelis want to enjoy their freedom without fear of demonstrating or having to hide their Jewish symbols,” an escalation following last week’s Iranian attacks.

Israel has not claimed responsibility for the attack, but the Iranian government has announced retaliation against Tel Aviv. US and Israeli intelligence have suggested that a new attack may take place today [December 26]. A 2020 [August 2021] may be held.

Iran’s UN representative asserted that the country and its proxies, including Hezbollah, will only attack Israeli targets inside Israeli territory.

However, in recent months, Iranian-backed terrorist groups have been attacking Jews and Israeli civilians abroad.

In December 2023, two Iranians posing as refugees were arrested in Cyprus for collecting intelligence for planning future attacks.

In March, EYP, in cooperation with Mossad, arrested two Pakistanis who were planning to attack a synagogue in Athens.

Seven more people were arrested in May in connection with the arson attack on an Israeli-owned hotel and restaurant.

The assassinations of Ismail Haniyeh in the Iranian capital and Hezbollah commander Shukr in Beirut last week have increased tensions in the region.

The Iran-backed militant group Hezbollah said it launched a drone attack in northern Israel early on Monday, injuring two Israeli soldiers and starting a fire, the Israeli army said.
