Any questions about the Princess of Wales returning to royal duties were silenced with a five-word statement from a royal insider.
Kate has only made two public appearances this year, including with her young family at this year’s Trooping the Colour in June. She last competed in the Wimbledon men’s final in July against Princess Charlotte.
The 42-year-old has not made any public appearances apart from these two appearances, meaning she is taking a break from royal duties as she continues to undergo treatment for cancer.
The source added, “The last time we heard from her before Trooping the Colour she said, ‘I’m not sure.'” We said her treatment would continue through the summer and that’s exactly what’s happening now.”
“It’s been a very, very tough year, a really difficult year for the whole family, and as she herself said, she’s not out of the woods yet.
“The direction is positive, but there will not be any major changes [in terms of her public profile] after Sunday evening and no one has revealed a timeline for her return ahead of her return in June.
” A senior source said the royal said a few weeks ago that Kate will “return to work when she gets the go-ahead from her doctor,” but did not give a specific timeline for her return to royal duties.
A source told Harper’s Bazaar in March that “she is doing well and is committed to a full recovery.” Her three children, George, 11, Charlotte, nine, and Louis, six, were affected.
She said: “This has obviously been a huge shock. William and I have done all we can to address and deal with this privately in the interest of our young family. As you can imagine, this took time; it took time to recover from major surgery and begin treatment.
“But most importantly, I needed time to explain everything in a proper way and to reassure George, Charlotte and Louis that I was OK. I told them: ‘I am getting better and stronger every day by focusing on the things that will help me heal – in mind, body and soul.'”
At the time, employees were quick to point out that her appearance at Trooping the Colour did not mean she would return to royal duties.
