A man has been charged with murder after a London bus driver was stopped and stabbed by police at Notting Hill Carnival over the August Bank Holiday weekend.
Detectives have launched a search for Comer Williams, who was previously wanted in connection with the stabbing murder of 53-year-old bus driver Derek Thomas in Stoke Newington. It was initially thought that Mr Williams had fled more than 330 miles from London to Devon or Cornwall.
Williams, 33, from the Isle of Dogs, was spotted by police at Notting Hill Carnival and arrested on Monday 26 August. On Tuesday 27 August he was charged with murder and possession of a knife.
Williams will appear in custody at Wimbledon Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday 28 August. Derek’s family have been informed and continue to be supported by specialist officers. On Saturday 3 August, a 30-year-old woman was arrested and detained on suspicion of being an accessory. She was later released on bail.
In a police update today, a spokesman confirmed that 349 arrests had been made over the carnival weekend, with 102 on Sunday and 247 on Monday. Offences range from possession of weapons to harassment.
