Donald Trump and several other official figures bashed the Biden-Harris administration for offering “sanctuary policies” contributing to “shocking” ICE data.
New federal data shows that more than 400,000 illegal immigrants with criminal records are in the United States illegally. In a letter to Rep. Tony Gonzales (R-Texas), Acting Director of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) Patrick Lechleitner said that as of July 21, 662,566 non-citizens with criminal connections were not being detained while awaiting immigration proceedings, according to the border report.
Of these, 425,431 have been convicted and 222,141 have criminal proceedings pending
The U.S. representative had previously called on the Department of Homeland Security to release data on immigrants with criminal records. After the order was issued, he described the statistics as “more than alarming.” He also called on the Biden-Harris Administration to “serve as a wake-up call to the Biden-Harris Administration and cities across America living in the shadow of asylum policies. Let’s go beyond rhetoric and get to results. Americans have a right to feel safe in their communities,” he continued.
Similarly, House Homeland Security Committee Chairman Mark Green also blamed the current administration for the rising crime rates. “It may be shocking to hear that the Biden-Harris Administration is actively releasing tens of thousands of criminal illegal aliens into our communities, but the administration’s own numbers prove this conclusively. This defies all common sense,” he said in a statement.
“DHS law enforcement agencies have been directed to mass release illegal aliens who are known to have criminal histories or are accused of serious crimes, allowing these dangerous and destructive individuals to infest every city and state in this country.”
Donald Trump also targets Kamala Harris in light of “shocking” ICE data
Former President Donald Trump was quick to enter the debate, trashing the reputation of his Democratic rival during the new presidential campaign. The Republican presidential candidate, who once criticized “Sleepy Joe” Biden and “Comrade Kamala” Harris for leading the country into World War III, has again slammed the vice president over the data released by ICE. President Trump reiterated his trademark discursive influence on the immigration debate at a town hall rally in Warren, Michigan on Friday, calling the statistic “the worst number I’ve ever heard.”
He then used the opportunity to harshly criticize Harris, describing her as “our incompetent and totally incompetent Great Border Czar.”
“As of July 21, 2024, there are 662,566 non-citizens with criminal records on ICE’s national list. 13,099 murderers convicted of crimes!” Rep. Tony Gonzalez posted on social media, citing federal data. A closer look at the data shows that 42,915 people have been charged with assault and 62,231 non-citizens convicted of assault remain at large. Additionally, U.S. authorities have released 15,811 people convicted of sexual assault. ICE is currently detaining 277 immigrants convicted of murder, as well as 51 immigrants facing similar charges. You’ll probably get kicked out.
Trump’s tirade at the town hall continued: “They were all released into our country and we can’t accept that. This is total incompetence,” he said, accusing Harris of “always complaining and never doing anything.” “What a day for the border,” Trump exclaimed.
Kamala Harris visited the US-Mexico border for the first time since becoming the Democratic presidential candidate. She spoke about her efforts to crack down on illegal immigration, including criticizing the 45th president: “He hasn’t solved the immigration officer shortage. He hasn’t solved the Border Patrol shortage. He hasn’t created legal routes into our country.
He hasn’t done anything to address our antiquated asylum system, and he hasn’t worked with other governments in the hemisphere to address what is clearly also a regional challenge.” Additionally, she promised to close the gap between securing the border and “creating a secure border”; choosing an “orderly and humane immigration system” rather than making a “false choice” between the two.
“Anyone who crosses the border illegally will be arrested and deported and will not be allowed to re-enter the country for five years,” she told a crowd at the southern border. “We will impose tougher penalties on repeat offenders and if someone fails to apply for asylum at a legal point of entry and instead crosses the border illegally, they will be denied asylum.” While we understand that many are desperate to immigrate to the United States. Our system must be orderly and secure.
But her border visit did not end the further criticism she received. “The National Border Patrol Council strongly criticized her symbolic visit in a statement. “After years of not only ignoring the problem but actually being complicit in creating it, VP Kamala is finally heading to the border. She’s trying to do just that – check a box – but in reality, it’s a slap in the face to the men and women who put their lives on the line every day and it’s also a slap in the face to the American people. ‘Where was she?'” reported Fox News.
