All flights departing from Manchester Airport are facing cancellations and severe delays after a power cut in the area.

It is understood an issue with the power supply in the local area affected the airport and a number of other buildings.

Power has been restored, and the airport said in a statement that it is “working to get passengers already at the airport on their flights as quickly as possible.”

However, it added that “due to disruptions caused by the power outage, in some cases baggage may not be transported on these flights.”

“We will work with airlines to ensure passengers can return their missing baggage as soon as possible,” the statement continued.

Terminals 1 and 2 are severely affected, while Terminal 3 is operational.

Passengers already at the airport should prepare for significant delays and possible cancellations. Photos show huge queues there this morning.

Manchester Airport is urging passengers departing from Terminals 1 or 2 not to come to the airport until further notice and to check with their airline for the latest updates.

Passengers departing from Terminal 3 may experience delays but should continue to the airport as normal unless instructed otherwise by their airline, the airport added.

Airlines will arrange outbound travel for those whose flights have been cancelled.

The airport is working to restore all services as quickly as possible but is unable to provide a timetable at this time.

Arriving flights are not significantly affected, but there are some delays with border controls.

Manchester Airport said in a statement: “Following the power outage which affected Manchester Airport and the surrounding area this morning, passengers due to depart from Terminals 1 and 2 are advised to contact the airport before arriving and to contact their airline as several flights have been cancelled and may be canceled. We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause.

“Our customer service and resilience teams are working hard to keep passengers informed at the airport, along with airline colleagues.”
