Cash registers are reportedly out of order at several supermarkets and retail chains across the country. Brits have taken to social media to share that cash registers aren’t working in their local stores, with many mentioning Morrisons and Asda.

Asda admitted this morning that there were technical issues in some stores, but Morrisons said there were none. On : “Just got back from my usual trip to Asda on Monday morning, soaking wet and no shopping. My local branch had a breakdown with their useless new checkout system which didn’t work at all, meaning the store couldn’t open. It’ll be interesting if this becomes a national issue!”

A third said: “Checkouts down in @asda, @Tesco closed for an emergency holiday somewhere… no milk in the staff room to make coffee, just coffee” Banana and crackers for lunch. Happy Monday.”

A fourth wrote: “Barrhead this morning! ASDA is open but the self checkouts don’t work even the staff operated ones. Electronics not working! So you’d think they’d make sure everyone is 100% safe before opening. Pay online!!”

Another cash only. Seems like nothing but problems since the new tills were installed!” However, Greggs has not responded to the post.

They then responded saying: “Some stores opened later than planned this morning due to technical issues with the checkout, however Asda says the issue has now been resolved.”

An Asda spokesperson issued a statement on the issue, saying: “Some stores opened later than planned this morning due to technical issues with the checkout.” “This issue has now been resolved and we apologise for any inconvenience caused to customers.”

Technical issues with checkouts at supermarkets and retail stores have been a problem this year. Major supermarket chains including Sainsbury’s and Tesco have been hit by technical disruptions this year, driving customers away. A global IT outage in July affected major retailers and businesses as well as airport services.
