Alex Jones made no mention of his colleague Jermaine Jenas’ departure during Thursday’s episode of The One Show. This came amid reports that the former footballer had been accused of “inappropriate behaviour” and subsequently removed from the programme.
Alex returned to the BBC show with his co-host, saying: “Hello and welcome to The One Show with Clara Amfo on Thursday on BBC One and iPlayer.”
The pair congratulated pupils who received their show today for passing their GCSEs. The results are in, but Jermaine’s departure was not mentioned.
Viewers responded: “
A third viewer commented: “Jermaine Jenas isn’t the only show we’re pretending doesn’t exist #TheOneShow”
“The elephant in the room is not shown on camera. Like he’s never even appeared on the show #theoneshow,” a fourth wrote.
Another wrote: “Jermaine Jenas was not mentioned but now we have this so everything is a bit different #TheOneShow.”
A sixth wrote: “#theoneshow.”
Jermaine has issued a statement following his firing from the BBC.
The former England international was released from his contract by the broadcaster earlier this week after having been heralded as a possible future Match of the Day presenter.
Unwanted text messages with a The One Show employee sparked the investigation but Jenas now denies the charges.
His spokesman said: I am not satisfied, there are two sides to every story, and I will be speaking with my lawyer about this issue.”
