After Leicester and Ipswich secured automatic promotion and Southampton’s play-off victory against Leeds at Wembley, it feels like the Championship season has just ended.

Leicester City landed the Championship title last term

The fixtures for the 2024/25 season have been confirmed, kicking off with two Friday night games, hosting Blackburn and Preston.

Derby head to Ewood Park, while Sheffield United, who endured a disastrous season of relegation, begin their quest for an immediate return at Deepdale.

Leeds, who almost won, host Portsmouth, who have only just returned to the Championship from League One. The opening weekend is played over four days and ends with a match between Luton and Burnley, a match that was the best just a few months ago.

Two of Yorkshire’s main players, Leeds and Sheffield United, are promotion contenders and will meet for the first time at Elland Road on 19 October. Speaking of Yorkshire, there will be a Steel City derby to look forward to for the first time since 2019.

The first of these matches will be played at Bramall Lane in November, with the return leg at Hillsborough in March. The season will finish on the first weekend in May.
