Huge fire turns scrapyard into inferno seen from miles away

Residents are being urged to keep windows and doors closed after a major fire broke out at a scrap yard in Red Lodge, Suffolk.

A fire at a scrap metal yard in Red Lodge, 21km west of Bury St Edmunds, sparked a major emergency response at the scene in Suffolk.

Thick black smoke rose into the air as scrap metal exploded into flames.

The incident was first reported just before 6pm this evening, with 11 fire engines rushing to the scene at The Carrops, Red Lodge.

People took to social media to post clouds of smoke against a blue sky off the A14. hours after the fire was first reported, Suffolk Fire Department announced the scrapheap “continues to burn.”

“At 9pm the scrapheap continues to burn but emergency crews are still on scene fighting the fire. They will be on scene throughout the night and into tomorrow (Saturday).”

“Due to shifting winds, Red Lodge residents are advised to keep windows and doors closed.”
