If after a few hours sleep you reach for your phone and can’t believe your eyes, join the club. If you’ve decided you don’t want to see a ton of on TV across all platforms or Boris Johnson on Channel 4, then this column is for you.
(Nadine Dorries, Boris Johnson’s vile and embarrassing tweets on UK election night earlier this year – what does Channel 4 think of its viewers?)
But the majority of the last 48 hours have been unbelievable, but soberly expected.
From ordinary Americans who appeared on the news and agreed that Donald Trump was a threat to democracy and voted for him anyway. That is until American actor Mickey Rourke posted his support for Kamala Harris on social media while holding up the Confederate flag.
Before the tally, Trump declared that the polls showing him favoring Kamala Harris were fraudulent – as did the journalists who correctly interpreted these numbers.
After all, he never needed to switch to a parallel universe. Similarly, given the threat of political violence, there was no need for fences around the White House, Harris’s residence, and businesses across the country.
As reality snarled at Harris’ followers, they left their guards at about 6 a.m. The scene was reminiscent of soccer fans who finished a game with 15 minutes left, knowing full well that a miracle would not happen.
The claim that she lost black American supporters is not true. The largest group of voters who supported Harris were black women, and the second largest group were black men — despite concerns that her appeal to their votes would not be as strong as, say, Barack Obama’s.
Harris lost more than Hillary Clinton in 2016. Wade and others are starting to think that Americans would rather vote for men than women. Trump has now left two behind: a black man and a white man.
Don’t get me wrong, Harris lost because she failed to understand the full picture of the situation with her constituents. She completely failed to listen to the voices of her constituents who wanted an end to the killing of Muslims in the bloodstream of the Middle East.
Harris was also handcuffed by the Biden administration, making life even worse for ordinary Americans. According to CNN statistics, she did not beat Biden’s numbers in 2020 in a single county.
But it is notable that Latino men who supported Joe Biden in 2020 did not extend that support to themselves — even though a speaker at the New York rally in Madison Square Garden called Puerto Rico a “floating island of trash.”
Moreover, the fact that a qualified and decent woman could lose so badly to a convicted felon accused of sexual misconduct by 26 women speaks volumes about the fact that he is a notorious liar who incited armed insurrection and should never have been a candidate. First of all, for himself.
Trump has been so successful that we may not see a moderate Supreme Court for decades to come. Also prepare for police to act with even greater impunity for their own machinations. If you recall, Trump was the guy who took out full-page ads in the 1980s executing the Central Park Five. They were incarcerated for years for raping women, only to be found innocent.
This story was made famous by the Netflix series “When They See Us.” It was so sad I could never watch it again.
Nevertheless, it is a microcosm of the truth that we have become a social media society that refuses to look at the details.
And yet, with the help of Elon Musk, who polluted social media (why didn’t the Democrats make this a bigger deal?), he managed to convince his supporters to fear the “enemy within”.
He’s not a politician, he’s a storyteller. There was no point in waiting for policy details. He made it up as he went along. But it worked here for Boris Johnson. It’s responsible for the rise of Nigel Farage, and it’s working just as well across Europe.
No wonder the French government spokeswoman declared on Wednesday morning that Europe was ready to take its destiny into its own hands. After the election results, she was not alone.
“We must ask ourselves not what America will do, but what Europe can do.” “In many key areas like defense, industrial recovery and decarbonization, we have to take our destiny into our own hands,” Maude Bergen said.
Some in the U.S. may need to do the same, keeping in mind President Trump’s favorite phrase: “America First.”
