Yesterday, rescue teams searching for missing teenager Jay Slater re-examined areas they had already searched for clues.

Police and firefighters were seen searching the ravine again and it is believed the 19-year-old’s mobile phone last ‘beeped’ shortly after his disappearance.

New pictures have been released of the apprentice bricklayer partying at the New Rave Generation festival in south-west Tenerife.

Jay had left the event with two Brits and was due to return to his holiday home. This was more than 20 miles (32 kilometres) from the Los Cristianos home of his best friend Lucy Law, 18, and other friends, after an 11-hour trek over dangerous terrain.

On Monday morning he called Lucy to say he was trying to get home in the middle of nowhere, with no water and only 1% phone battery. His phone went dead 20 minutes later, at 8.50am, and he is thought to have died somewhere in the Parque Rural de Teno Nature Reserve.

Last night Jay’s heartbroken mother Debbie Duncan, 55, was still waiting anxiously next to his father Warren Slater, 58, waiting for news. His brother Zach, 24, said: “We don’t know where he is or what has happened to him. We don’t know where he is or what has happened to him.” “I just want him to come home safe. I wish he’d come home.”

He and his father Warren last night put up missing persons posters in Santiago del Teide, where witnesses told police they thought they had seen Jay last Monday night.

The village is about four miles from Masca, where Jay was last seen about 10 hours ago. Yesterday, churchgoers from Jay’s hometown of Oswaldtwistle, Lancashire, attended a service for him held by the Reverend Matt Smith at West End Methodist Church.

And Jay’s friends have flown to the Spanish island to join the search, along with strangers moved by his story.

One British woman, who asked to remain anonymous, said: “It’s heartbreaking.”

Former police detective Mark Williams-Thomas, who helped uncover Jimmy Savile and has worked on many high-profile missing persons cases, addressed the family yesterday, offering his expertise.

The former investigator and journalist said: “I have offered to work with my team to get answers from Jay’s mother. With our feet on the ground we can quickly say whether he is solely responsible for the disappearance or if a third party is involved.”
