Jay Slater disappeared in Tenerife after leaving an Airbnb accommodation in a remote part of the island.
The 19-year-old apprentice bricklayer went missing on the morning of June 17 while on holiday with friends at a three-day music festival. He was last seen wearing a grey sports top with a lime green stripe on the shoulders, carrying a black bag, before leaving his friends to walk with a British couple to their rented home in the Rural de Teno area.
He is believed to have left the two-bedroom house, known as Casa Abuela Tina, early on Monday morning to make the 11-hour trek to the south of the island to return to his home, missing the first bus of the day . . Jay posted a final photo of himself on Snapchat smoking on the steps of a whitewashed house before disappearing.

The rental property is adjacent to a bar and restaurant on the outskirts of Masca, about 20 miles from the party scene of Playa Americas. An online post describes the house as having “two bedrooms, two bathrooms, a living room and a kitchen, ideal for enjoying the peace and quiet, reading, hiking or enjoying nature.”
Adding: “The house has Wi-Fi and all the necessary appliances for a comfortable stay in one of the most beautiful and wild places on the island, in the heart of Maciso de Teno.” There is no indication that the property owners or the two Brits had anything to do with Jay’s disappearance.

The two men Jay was with are believed to have checked out of the accommodation on Wednesday and flown back to the UK. Araceli, from Tenerife, who works in a deferred letting business.
She said: ‘I never saw the missing boy but I know people saw him walking alone.’ I saw two British guys who stayed here. They came to the cafe a couple of times with leche. One was about 40 years old, the other a bit younger. Police spoke to both of them. They arrived on Saturday and were due to stay until Monday but left on Tuesday.”
Before Jay disappeared into the Spanish island landscape, a local tried to explain to him that the next bus was coming down the mountain. The wait is two hours. A woman called Ofelia Medina Hernandez told MailOnline that Jay asked her about buses back to Los Cristianos, near the rental property. She explained to him that the next bus was at 10am but wasn’t sure if he understood.
She said: “I raised my finger to say 10am because he didn’t understand me, then I walked home for a while before heading up the mountain in Buenavista del Norte but this time I saw him coming on the way from there, barely 10 or 15 minutes after speaking to him and he was about a kilometre from the house, I drove past him and that was the last time I saw him.”

At around 8.15am on Monday, Jay called his girlfriend Lucy May Lowe to tell her his phone battery was at 1 per cent and he was thirsty. Concerned, Lucy raised the alarm and shortly afterwards Jay’s phone rang.
Over the past five days, local police have made a major effort to try to find the teenager in the mountainous region near the village of Masca in Tenerife, with helicopters in the air, a special mountain rescue unit and sniffer dogs on the ground. .
A police source said this morning: “At this stage there is no talk of reducing efforts to find the missing person, let alone suspending them. The plan for now is to carry on until it is found. “Officers are obviously prepared for the possibility of finding the body, but at the moment everyone is focused on the idea that he is still alive and that they can help reunite him with his family and friends.”
