Jermaine Jenas didn’t seem all that impressed when his emails to BBC colleagues came to light.
The former presenter of “The One Show” and “Match of the Day” was sacked by the company after learning of allegations of inappropriate behaviour. Jermaine has remained silent on the matter, saying he is consulting with legal representatives following the allegations.
Jenas, 41, is also not happy with the allegations, saying there are “two sides to the same story”. But an email from BBC sporting director Alex Kay-Jerski abruptly put an end to his time with the Beebs. “We just wanted to let you know that Jermaine Jenas is no longer working for the BBC,” the email, seen by the and sent to staff at 3.39pm on Thursday, read.
: “It was terribly short and to the point – it felt like nothing was messed up.” Hours after the damning email was sent, a tense Jenas was seen leaving the TalkSPORT studios while talking on the phone. News of his alleged behaviour came to light when he appeared on the station as a guest presenter, leading bosses to decide to keep him on live on air.
Of the allegations, he said: “As you can probably tell, I’m not happy about this. But as things stand, I’ll just have to leave that to my lawyers. You know, there’s two sides to every story. That’s all I can say at this point.”
When questioned further about sending unsolicited text messages to female employees on The One Show, he quipped: “Like I said, I’m not happy about this situation. You know, I’m going to take this up with my lawyers, that’s all I can say at this point.” When asked whether the allegations involved multiple colleagues or if he was surprised by the allegations, Jenas refused to answer. Jermaine was unsure if the show was still on the air, but the interview confirmed that the show was still on the air. An enraged Jenas demanded that he be “turned off”.
He last appeared on The One Show on 22 July 2024, having appeared on Match of The Day a few weeks prior to that. A BBC spokesperson said: “We can confirm that he is no longer part of our presenting team”.
A source told The Sun that this had been a “nightmare” for the BBC following the recent scandals surrounding the corporation. It added: “Following an immediate and routine investigation, the decision was taken to remove him from broadcast and to terminate his contract.” It further claimed that a mural of Jenas in BBC studios at Media City UK in Salford had been discovered to have been removed.
From his roles in Match of the Day and The One Show, Jermaine earned a handsome salary of between £190,000 and £194,999 annually. The former Tottenham Hotspur star was also a regular on BBC’s Euro 2024 coverage and Match of the Day spin-off show.
Since retiring from playing, Jermaine has had a distinguished career in front of the camera, working with the BBC and TNT Sports, primarily as a presenter for football coverage and Formula E. Before becoming a full-time presenter on The One Show, he was a stand-in for Matt Baker alongside Ronan Keating.
Following her popularity on the show, she was signed on a full-time contract in May 2021 to co-host the show on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays alongside Welsh presenter Alex Jones.
