It was confirmed that the former England midfielder quit presenting with the station on Thursday afternoon. A BBC spokesman said: “We can confirm that he is no longer part of our presenting team.”

The BBC confirmed that the official reason for his departure was “conduct at work”, but further reports suggested that Jenas was facing “allegations of inappropriate behaviour.”

However, he has now found a new job with a rival broadcaster. talkSPORT has confirmed that he will appear alongside former Liverpool winger Jermaine Pennant on its afternoon show Drive.

Jenas has previously appeared on the station as a guest but never as a main presenter and has been contacted by talkSPORT for comment.

Jenas has previously had a long-standing relationship with the BBC. He has appeared as a pundit and presenter on Match of the Day and as a host on The One Show. Jenas last hosted The One Show on 22 July, alongside Alex Jones.

He was also the presenter of the show MOTDx, a spin-off show aimed at a younger audience that was cancelled last season. Jenas previously appeared in the BBC’s coverage of Euro 2024 in Germany.

Jenas was seen as a natural successor if Gary Lineker were to leave his role as main Match of the Day presenter. Jenas is also a presenter for Formula E.

When describing his role, he said he had never watched the sport before. Speaking on the Peter Crouch Podcast earlier this year, he said: “I’ve always loved F1 and this job came about because F1 is a new sport, only nine or 10 years old.”

“It’s a sport that’s about sustainability and excitement. When they asked me if I wanted to join, I said, ‘Look, I’ve never seen this racing before.’ I love F1 but with F1 I’d have to do a lot of research and effort.

‘It’s a brand new sport and no one knows it well enough to enjoy it, so I was like, ‘Let me take you on this journey.’ When that pressure was relieved and they told me some of the venues I’d be going to… Mexico, Sao Paulo, Monaco, Tokyo – those seemed like good destinations.”
