At least two rear compartments of Sealdah-bound Kanchanjunga Express derailed after a goods train collided with it near New Jalpaiguri station in West Bengal, killing several people and injuring several others.
The incident took place at around 8.45 am today in the Rangapani area of Katihar Railway Division before New Jalpaiguri Junction, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee said in a follow-up post. While further details are awaited, the Kanchenjunga Express reportedly collided with a goods train.

The accident occurred around 7 pm when two coaches of Yashwantpur-Howrah Express No. 12864 (SMVB-HWH) derailed near Bahanagar station in Balasore district.

National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) personnel and railway divisional officials have reached the accident site. A total of 15 ambulances and medical equipment have also reached the accident site.

Sealdah-bound Kanchanjunha Express collided with a goods train near New Jalpaiguri on June 17 morning, according to a senior North Frontier Railway (NFR) official. There are unconfirmed reports of injuries in the accident, which occurred around 9 am, a divisional officer of Katihar division told NFR.
