EXCLUSIVE: King Charles and Queen Camilla are completely unfazed by the upcoming release of Spare on paperback and have asked for no mention of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex or the book during their tour.
The paperback edition of Prince Harry’s memoir, Spare, was released this week amid King Charles and Camilla’s tour of Australia and Samoa.
The official release of The Mudslayer is scheduled for October 22 in the US and October 24 in the UK. The new edition of the thief hits stores just as the King is about to embark on a high-profile visit to Samoa for the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM).
But sources say King Charles, 75, and Camilla, 77, are unfazed by the impending release of the book and have asked that no mention of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex or the paperback edition be made during their visit.
“The King and Queen are operating as usual during this tour and don’t want talk of Harry’s book to ruin it,” the source said. “It’s not that important to them right now, they should be concentrating on bigger things.
“The King wants this tour to be a success, but it (Harry’s book) is not even on his mind.”
Penguin Random House announced in August that the paperback edition of Spare would not be released. It contains new revelations about the royal family.
However, the re-publication of the book clashes with the King and Queen’s high-profile appearances in Australia and at CHOGM, leading many to fear that it was deliberately planned to jeopardize the important royal visit.
King Charles has paused treatment for the “important” visit despite his ongoing battle with cancer.
In addition to the allegations about Camilla, Prince Harry has also used his book to draw attention to an alleged assault by his brother Prince William.
Prince Harry, 40, claimed that Prince William ripped off his necklace and shoved it into a dog bowl during a heated argument in 2019.
The Duke also spoke about the tense relationship between his wife Meghan Markle, the Princess of Wales, including Kate’s reaction to Meghan saying he has a “baby brain”.
The paperback edition will have the same cover as the original and new packaging, but “the content of the book will remain unchanged”.
Buckingham Palace has been contacted for comment.
