In his address to politicians, King Charles made a joke about the “sands of time” and expressed his happiness at being back in Australia.

To commemorate the 200th anniversary of the upper house in New South Wales, the monarch gave the parliament there an hourglass, which he referred to as a “speech timer.”

The King made a joke, saying, “With the sands of time encouraging brevity,” “it just remains for me to say what a great joy it is to come to Australia for the first time as Sovereign, and to renew a love of this country and its people which I have cherished so long.”

As he presented the timepiece to the parliament, it appears that he could not resist moving the fine sand in the hourglass.

“Democratic systems must evolve, of course, to remain fit for purpose, but they are, nevertheless, essentially sound systems,” he stated in a speech. “Democratic systems are, of course, a system,” he added.

“I believe democracy has an extraordinary capacity for innovation, compromise, adaptability, and stability when supported by wisdom and good faith.”

The King and Queen made the presentation after meeting the general public at a church service in a north Sydney suburb on the first full day of their Australian tour.

The Minister’s significant other Ellie Mantle brought a rugby ball, cricket ball and stuffed koala, gifts for the illustrious grandkids Ruler George, Princess Charlotte and Sovereign Louis.

“It’s a significant privilege for us as it’s the main chance so that the general population might be able to see the Lord and Sovereign,” she said.

The monarch even spotted an old friend among the faces – his former polo teacher Sinclair Hill, who is described as Australia’s greatest player of the sport – after the King and Queen spent time shaking hands with well-wishers outside.

He was accompanied by his wife Wendy Hill, who Charles kissed on both cheeks and later said: He is a lovely man, and the fact that he came despite his illness and made the effort to talk to all of these people is admirable. I thought he looked dynamite.”

A small group of supporters of First Nations resistance to colonization held up a large banner with the words “Decolonise” about 100 meters away.

Wayne Wharton said: ” We respectfully request King Charles to begin the decolonization process, negotiate with Aboriginal people for compensation for the illegal settlement and colonization of so-called Australia, and work with the Australian government.
