Jay Slater The apprentice bricklayer was last heard from on Monday, telling a friend he was setting off on an 11-hour walk to get home after missing his bus.

Helicopters, rescue dogs and drones continue to search for a missing British teenager on holiday in Tenerife as concerned family and friends endure a “living nightmare”.

The search for Jay Slater, 19, of Oswaldtwistle, near Blackburn, Lancashire, has entered its fifth day.

Lancashire Police said the case was “not within the jurisdiction of UK police” but that they had offered to assist Spanish police “if additional resources are required”.

Police added: “They confirmed that they believe they have the necessary resources at the moment, but this offer remains in place and they will contact you if the situation changes.

The apprentice bricklayer was on holiday, he added. He had been with friends in Tenerife when he disappeared on Monday.

The last time I heard from him was when I called a friend to tell him I’d missed the bus and was going to walk 11 hours to get home.

“He asked me twice when the bus was coming.

“I told him it’s 10 o’clock.

“He came back and asked me again and I told him it’s 10 o’clock.

“Then he left and I never saw him again.

“I then saw him in his car, he was leaving in a hurry.

“But then I didn’t see him again.”

Her account came as new photos showed him last seen in the northwest mountain village of Masuka after attending the NRG music festival.

“We are exhausted beyond words”

In a post on the Jay Slater Missing Facebook page, group administrator Rachel Louise Hague said family and friends are “exhausted beyond words”.

She said: “Unfortunately, no one has an update.

“It’s hard to say at the moment, but all I can say is we’re still exploring and everyone is doing what we can.

“We are incredibly tired, I can’t say more, I wish I could.

“I wish this living nightmare would end now.”

“Search efforts are ongoing but we remain optimistic.

“Thank you so much for your support and cooperation, we couldn’t be more grateful, thank you very much.”

Searchers comb a river at the bottom of a ravine.

On Friday, search and rescue workers joined personnel from the island’s private security service near Masca, who searched an overgrown area.

The team also paid particular attention to a river at the bottom of the ravine called the Barranco Madre del Agua, where rescuers carefully made their way among fallen and withered palm trees.

Mr Slater’s girlfriend Lucy Lowe, who was attending the music festival with him, said he called her at around 8.30am on Monday to say he was “lost in the mountains, unaware of his surroundings and desperate for help.” He said he had been drinking and his phone was at 1%.”

Meanwhile, members of the local community gathered for a service in his home town to express their hope for his safe return.

A spokesman for the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office said: “We are supporting the family of the Briton missing in Spain and are in contact with the local authorities.”
