Liam Payne was ‘visibly out of his mind’ when he went down to the hotel lobby in the moments leading up to his tragic death
Liam Payne was asked to return to his hotel room shortly before his tragic death.
The One Direction singer died on Wednesday at the age of 31. Authorities say he “jumped off the balcony of his hotel room.” Police were reportedly called to a hotel after a man reported being aggressive and under the influence of alcohol and drugs.
A receptionist at Hotel Casa Sur made two emergency calls asking for “someone to come” after a guest reported “being under the influence of drugs and destroying everything in the room.” According to LA NACIÓN, Liam entered the hotel lobby “clearly insane”.
Staff who spoke to him told him to return to his hotel room, but minutes later, the impact of his body could be heard as he fell from the third floor into the hotel’s courtyard. Before his heartbreaking death, the hotel called 911 to say: “We need someone to come.
Our guests’ lives are in danger. The room has a balcony and we are afraid he might do something,” and seconds later, a hotel employee who gave only his first name, Esteban, added: “Please send an ambulance, just send an ambulance.”
Liam’s One Direction bandmates Louis Tomlinson, Niall Horan, Zayn Malik and Harry Styles released a joint statement expressing their shock at their friend’s death. “We are completely devastated by the news of Liam’s passing,” one wrote on Instagram.
“As time passes and everyone is able, we will have more to say, but for now we will take some time to grieve and process the loss of our brother, whom we loved so much. The memories we shared with him will be cherished forever. At this time our thoughts are with his family, his friends and the fans who loved him as much as we did. We will miss him so much. We love you Liam.”
The stars also released a number of personal statements, including one from Louis in which he made a promise to Liam’s son Bear. In his post, Louis said: “When Bear needs me I’ll be his uncle and tell him what a great father he had. I wish I had the chance to say goodbye and tell you one more time how much I loved you.”
