A 32-year-old man from Leeds was arrested last night on suspicion of murder in connection with the death of Claudiu Carol Condor, 42, of Sheffield.

Mr Condor had delivered a package to Amazon at around 6.45pm on Tuesday and returned to his van where he allegedly spotted a man apparently attempting to steal the package.

When he tried to thwart the alleged theft, the van drove off at a high speed with the victim partly trapped in the passenger door of the vehicle.

The van then crashed into two cars parked on Heights Drive and drove off. Mr Condor was left injured in the road between the junction of Heights Way and Heights Bank.

Five minutes later, police were called to the scene and found the delivery driver unconscious. Passersby tried to help him.

He was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash in Heights Drive, Wortley.

A GoFundMe fundraiser for Mr Condor’s family has raised almost £10,000. Mike Neil, SP Transport group operations manager, said on the site: “Claudio was more than just a colleague – he was a friend, a confidant and a valued member of our team.

We will never forget his dedication to his work and the friendship he brought to the workplace. The impact of this tragedy reaches far beyond our workplace and affects everyone who was blessed to know Claudiu.”

The man arrested remains in custody and inquiries are ongoing. Investigators continue to appeal for information.
