Meghan Markle and Prince Harry did not attend Trooping the Colour again this year, and a Royal expert has claimed the Duchess is ‘indifferent‘ to her Royal past
According to experts, Prince Harry and his wife Meghan Markle are divided on their feelings about their royal past and their absence from important events such as Trooping the Colour.
Royal commentator Richard Fitzwilliams believes that while Meghan is happy to be away from royal life, the Duke of Sussex must be nostalgic for his royal duties, especially those related to the military. Notably, the couple missed this year’s Trooping the Colour, which took place on Saturday. The event was last held in 2019.
Royal expert Fitzwilliams commented on their absence by suggesting that it may be difficult for Prince Harry to miss the event due to his military connections. Meanwhile, Fitzwilliams believes that Meghan will be unfazed by ignoring royal traditions such as Trooping the Colour.
Fitzwilliams told The Sun, “I think Prince Harry has always had an interest in military matters,” and also commented on the Sussexes’ split from the royal family, saying, “I think he understands the path. It’s definitely where the split came from. In my opinion, it’s because of the Sussexes. The couple are hoping for an apology from the royal family for how they were treated as senior royals, but that’s unlikely. There’s probably a sense of regret there.”
Commenting on Meghan’s attitude, Fitzwilliams added, “Meghan would honestly be indifferent to ceremonies like the Trooping of the Colour. I don’t know if she’ll actually watch them, but I don’t think it means much to her. “When it comes to military issues, I think Harry has always been interested in military issues.
“I think he definitely thinks that a break with the royal family has happened and I think it’s because of the Sussexes. I know they would have wanted an apology from the royal family for how they were treated when they were senior members of the royal family. They certainly wouldn’t appreciate it. But I do think there will be some regret. The military has been a very important part of his life and I thought it was natural that he would have some regret [not being able to attend Trooping the Colour].
“I think Meghan is honestly indifferent to ceremonies like Trooping the Colour. I don’t know if she’ll actually watch them, but I don’t think it would mean much to her. If she had, she would have been able to carve out a useful position within the royal family somehow.” Meghan was in the UK for a short stay before departing on her trip to Nigeria.
ahead of Trooping the Colour, Mr Fitzwilliams said: “If things had gone as expected, Harry and Meghan would have featured prominently at the ceremony as senior members of the Royal Family and received worldwide coverage. He wouldn’t be human if he didn’t feel a bit of regret when he sees what he’s missing out on, and he certainly must. Surely there will come a time when he too will wear his coronation medal.”
Mr Fitzwilliams believes it’s unlikely we’ll see Harry and Meghan, or their children Prince Archie and Princess Lilibeth, on the Buckingham Palace balcony anytime soon.
He said: “I find it impossible to imagine Archie and Lilibeth alone on the balcony of Buckingham Palace or at Trooping the Colour. Only when the conflict is resolved will we see her on the balcony with Harry and Meghan and the rest of the family. The Sussexes’ appearance would be highly publicised everywhere. He would put this weekend’s parade to shame.”
“Trooping the Colour is first and foremost about the King. Harry and Meghan would involve something of a publicity circus. A Trooping the Colour with Harry and Meghan as the main characters is impossible. That would be ridiculous. The Sussexes attract an incredible amount of attention every time they perform. I think it will be many years before they attend a Royal event again.”
