As we celebrate the 126th Independence Day of the Philippines, I am deeply honoured to address our vibrant Filipino community in Dubai and the Northern Emirates. This year holds special significance as we also mark the 50th anniversary of establishing diplomatic relations between the Philippines and the UAE and the 20th anniversary of the Philippine Consulate General in Dubai.

Philippines
Marford M. Angeles, Consul General of Philippine to the UAEand Northern Emirates

The strong friendship between the two countries was reaffirmed during a recent courtesy visit. President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. met with UAE Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, where both leaders expressed their unwavering commitment to strengthening the ties that have united our countries over the past five decades.

President Marcos Jr. also expressed his heartfelt gratitude to the UAE for its continued support and compassion for the Filipino people, especially during difficult times, which is a testament to the strong ties between our countries.

The narrative of Filipinos in the UAE has changed significantly. Originally known as hardworking migrant workers, Filipinos are now successful leaders and entrepreneurs who are making significant contributions to the UAE’s diverse and dynamic society. This transformation is a testament to the resilience, talent and determination of our fellow Filipinos.

As I reflect on my journey, I am honoured to serve as your Consul General, having previously served as Deputy Chief of Mission at the Philippine Embassy

in Abu Dhabi. My experience has shown me the strength of our community and the profound impact of our contributions to our host country.

As we mark this Independence Day, let us honour our heritage, celebrate our achievements and look forward to a future full of promise and opportunity. We will continue to strengthen the strong foundation of friendship and cooperation between the Philippines and the UAE.

Long live the Philippines! Long live the Filipino community in the UAE!
