A brazen mob was filmed breaking into and looting a Greggs store. He trashed it and left with a tray full of baked goods.
A video was posted in which two people can be seen taking turns trying to break into the store as alarms sound and passers-by cheer on.
A third man wearing a balaclava then joins in, attracting the attention of the crowd as he pushes against a broken window to try and get in. Pictures taken after the attack show a shirtless man carrying a blue tray as he walks through Greggs stock strewn across the floor.
Violence erupted in Hull over the weekend, with passersby filming the group as police rushed to deal with widespread chaos in the city caused by far-right rioters. More than 90 people have been arrested as riots spread across the country. Numerous shops were looted by groups taking advantage of the unrest.
Humberside Police confirmed on Monday that 29 arrests had been made in the town alone between Saturday and Sunday. Assistant Constable Tom McLoughlin described the incident as “completely senseless” involving people “looking to tear our community apart”. Police are reviewing footage circulating on social media and confirmed they expect further arrests.
ACC McLoughlin praised the “camaraderie” of the community and thanked officers and members of the public who helped victims of the “senseless violence”. He said 11 police officers were injured, some of whom required hospital treatment. The force said one of the 29 arrested was 25-year-old John Honey, who has been charged with three counts of robbery, two counts of burglary, violent disorder and criminal damage.
ACC McLoughlin said Honey had been detained and announced further arrests would follow as police scrutinise footage posted on social media showing the violent riots. He added: “We have now made a total of 29 arrests and can assure you that further arrests will be made as we continue to closely examine a number of clips and videos sent to us and shared on social media to advance our multi-front investigation.”
