Nine children were taken to hospital after a chemical leak at a leisure centre in Wembley.
Heavy activity was seen outside the centre, which was cordoned off by police. The Metropolitan Police said officers responded to reports of a chlorine leak at the centre on Watford Road, Wembley.
Around the same time, the London Ambulance Service was called, with ambulances, emergency services and members of the Hazardous Areas Response Team (HART) attending. A fire engine was also seen outside the leisure centre.
On arrival they found nine children and two adults needing medical attention and took them to hospital where they are currently receiving treatment.
A Metropolitan Police spokesperson told Harrow Online: “Police officers, London Ambulance Service and London Fire Brigade are on duty. The leisure centre has been evacuated as a precaution and the road has been closed.”
A London Ambulance Service spokesperson said: “We were called to Watford Road at 1.34pm today (29 August) for a chlorine leak. Wembley was called to the scene.
We have sent a number of responders to the scene including paramedics, emergency responders and members of the Hazardous Areas Crisis Response Team (HART). We treated nine children and two adults at the scene and transported them all to hospital.”
On its website, Vale Farm Sports Centre said: “Please be advised that due to unforeseen circumstances Vale Farm Sports Centre is closed.”
