Oasis have confirmed that it’s happening – Noel and Liam Gallagher are reuniting and planning a massive show in 2025, years since the brothers last performed together before their infamous falling out.

Noel and Liam Gallagher shared the news on their respective social media sites, saying: “This is happening, they’re playing four shows at Wembley, four in Manchester and also Scotland, Wales and Ireland in July and August 2025.

Oasis said: “The stars are aligning.” The long wait is over. Come see it. It won’t be broadcast on TV.”

To mark the announcement, the brothers were photographed together for the first time in years. The picture was taken in London in July

In a statement from the band, Revealing, about why the reunion is finally happening now, they said there was “no big revelatory moment,” but rather “a gradual realization that the time was right. It feels impactful as it comes so close to the anniversary of the release of ‘Definitely Maybe’.”

The announced shows will be the band’s only European dates next year, potentially putting an end to rumours of a headline slot at Glastonbury, the magazine said. Further dates further afield are also planned throughout 2025.

Details of who else in the band will be playing have yet to be confirmed.

Speculation about a reunion has been growing in recent weeks, with music insiders leaking details of upcoming shows.

Liam has also dropped hints in advance, telling users:

Now the comeback is confirmed.

Previously, Liam gave a series of solo performances to mark the anniversary of Definitely Maybe, while his brother Noel (57) performed with his band High Flying Birds over the summer.

During the performance of “Definitely Maybe”, Liam, 51, purposely dedicated “Half the World Away” to his “little brother”, saying that he still “plays the unapproachable man”.

However, during one of Noel’s performances, when a fan asked about Liam, the Oasis songwriter stated that his brother “should be grateful for my genius”, telling the audience:

What happened in 2009?

Oasis formed in the early 1990s and rose to fame with songs like Supersonic, Cigarettes & Alcohol and Live Forever, scoring their first number one single with their second album (What’s The Story) Morning Glory the following year.

Their ignominious breakup, sparked by a backstage brawl before taking to the stage at Paris’ Rock en Seine festival in August 2009, only reinforced the band’s legendary status.

It occurred when Liam damaged one of his brother’s guitars, leading to Noel’s dramatic departure and an end to the partnership that had brought them fame and fortune.

“It is with a little sadness but also great relief that I leave Oasis tonight,” Noel later said in a statement. “People can write and say what they like, but I couldn’t continue working with Liam one more day. The two hurled insults at each other in public and the feud lasted for years.” Social media, Noel is even more so when asked about his brother in interviews, though he has reportedly never spoken to him directly.

When his documentary As It Was was released in 2019, “wanted to break Noel’s jaw” after he apparently refused him permission to use Oasis’ music in the film.

But 15 years on, they’ve now made amends, giving thousands of Oasis fans the chance to see them perform live again.
