The woman was reportedly pushed off a bench by “two high school students” as she waited for a bus on High Street in Tranent, East Lothian, at around 6.20pm last Friday.

The teenagers are said to have pushed the pregnant woman to the ground, injuring her and fled. The victim was reportedly taken to Edinburgh Royal Infirmary by her husband the following afternoon after suffering “bleeding and excruciating pain”.

The distraught husband posted on social media after the incident urging people to track down the boys. The man then posted an update on Tuesday saying that his wife had a miscarriage in hospital.

He wrote: “It is with a heavy heart that I have to announce to the world that my wife has had a miscarriage and is still recovering in hospital.

“This has been an extremely traumatic, heartbreaking and frightening experience for us, especially my wife and children. I ask everyone, if you have any sons or daughters, nieces or nephews please speak up.

Teach your kids how to respect people and behave in public, and remind them every day. It should start at home, by teaching them good manners.”

Previously, the husband had posted: “Two high school students in black uniforms (one in shorts, the other in long pants) pushed my pregnant wife aside as we were walking around 6:20 in the afternoon waiting for the bus at a bus stop on the main road.

She offered [them] a seat and was kind to them, but they were very rude. My wife was hurt and angrily told them she was pregnant. They apologized and ran away. Are there any CCTV cameras in the area?”

On Saturday afternoon, the man added: “An update to last night’s post, my wife is now bleeding and in excruciating pain. We are waiting for an ambulance. This is a call for justice.” Shocked residents also took to social media to express their anger at the incident and condolences for the family’s loss, reported Edinburgh Live.

One person said: “I really hope she gets better. Love to you all,” a second added: “So sad. I hope that whoever did this to your wife and baby is charged,” and a third added: “So sorry for this awful loss and hope that in time justice will be served.

” Following the alleged assault, a Police Scotland spokesman said: “We were called to a report of an assault which occurred in High Street, Tranent on Friday August 30. Investigations are ongoing.
