Despite sitting in the same room at the memorial service for their uncle, Sir Robert Fellowes, Prince Harry and Prince William reportedly did not see each other as their relationship appeared to be frosty.
However, a glimmer of hope has appeared for royal fans as a source revealed that the two estranged princes are eager to mend their relationship.
“Harry is open to reconciling with his brother,” a source told Express. “He knows it’s not an easy task but it’s something he can bring to the table.”
Meanwhile, the source added: “William is open to reconciling with his brother at some point, but they’d have to start over and it would be a new beginnings scenario where bygones be slain.”
The estranged brothers were in attendance at St Mary’s Church in Snettisham last Thursday to pay their final respects to their late uncle. Giving the honours.
The memorial service was held near the royal family’s Sandringham estate in Norfolk. A source told Express.co.uk that Princes William and Harry attended the ceremony but did not speak, suggesting that only the Spencers could repair their fractured relationship.
“Everyone is hoping that Jane or Charles (Spencer) will step in in some way and get things back on track,” the source revealed. “It will take time but it looks possible.”
It was revealed last weekend that Prince Harry was staying at Princess Diana’s childhood home during his recent visit to the UK. The Duke of Sussex stayed at the Spencer family’s Althorp House in Northampton with his uncle, Earl Charles Spencer.
The first signs of rifts between Prince Harry and Prince William appeared around Christmas 2018, when Harry reportedly accused William of not doing enough to welcome Meghan into the royal family.
The situation worsened when the Duke and Duchess of Sussex stepped down from their positions as members of the royal family in 2020 and moved to the United States.
The move was soon followed by the publication of her sponsored biography, Finding Freedom, and her explosive interview with Oprah Winfrey, in which she made several allegations against the royal family. Her Netflix documentary, Harry and Meghan, and Harry’s controversial autobiography, Spare, quickly followed.
In his tell-all book, Harry made some shocking revelations about his brother, including an incident in which he claims William pushed him to the ground during an argument.
He also revealed details of an argument between Meghan and the Princess of Wales over bridesmaid dresses, which reportedly left both duchesses in tears.
Since moving to the US, the Sussexes have made few trips to the UK. Prince Harry returned to visit his father, King Charles, in February this year and again in May for the Invictus Games.
However, “scheduling conflicts” meant he wasn’t able to meet any of the family on his previous trip. Meghan hasn’t been seen in the UK since attending the late Queen’s funeral in 2022.
Both Kensington Palace and representatives for the Sussexes have been contacted for comment.
