War brothers Prince William and Prince Harry were reunited this week when they attended their uncle’s funeral together.
The Duke of Sussex secretly flew to Britain on Wednesday to attend the service for Sir Robert Fellowes.
The 82-year-old was married to Lady Jane, sister of the late Princess of Wales, and was an uncle to Prince William and Prince Harry. He died early last month.
His funeral took place in Norfolk yesterday. His two brothers were also in attendance but have not spoken to each other since the funeral of their beloved grandmother, the Queen, in 2022.
Yesterday they were said to be “cautious” about each other, a source told The Sun. Another attendee said: “They hadn’t been seen speaking to each other and they kept their distance.”
Last month, former BBC royal correspondent Jenny Bond said Harry’s presence could create an “uncomfortable” situation. She said at the time: “I can imagine that Prince Harry would want to attend his uncle’s funeral.
his uncle’s presence would cause great embarrassment if Prince William were also there. However, it would be wonderful to think that at least two grown men could be present in the same place, even if only briefly, as they did at the Coronation… without spoiling the great mourning and solemn occasion.”
Lord Fellowes married Lady Jane, Princess Diana’s sister, on 20 April 1978. They have been married for over 40 years and have three children, Laura, Alexander and Eleanor, all cousins of William and Harry. Laura is also the godmother of Prince William and Kate Middleton’s only daughter, Princess Charlotte.
Lord Fellowes was also the late Queen’s private secretary in the 1990s, including during the breakdown of Prince Charles and Princess Diana’s marriage. He also advised Her Majesty when Fergie and Prince Andrew’s marriage broke down in 1992 and when Windsor Castle burned, destroying 115 rooms.
He was still in this role when his sister-in-law, Diana, died in a tragic car accident in Paris at the age of 36.
His role as a palace official often meant he had a strained relationship with his sister-in-law, but when she suddenly died he said: “She was a very good person. She found it hard to find happiness in life and I feel sad for people who do that.”
Lord Fellowes is survived by his three children, Laura, Alexander and Eleanor, who are cousins to William and Harry. The UAE breaking news has contacted representatives for both princes for comment.
