Manuel Ugarte has arrived in England to complete his medical with Manchester United.

The PSG midfielder flew to the UK on a private jet from Paris, arriving late on Tuesday night before flying to Manchester for his medical.

The two clubs agreed the fee on Monday night after Manchester United’s Jason Wilcox travelled to Paris to finalise the deal. Wilcox was joined in the French capital by the club’s director of player negotiations, Matt Hargreaves.

Ugarte’s deal was initially valued at £42m, plus a further £8.4m add-ons, bringing the total transfer fee to just over £50m.

Negotiations with PSG have accelerated after United agreed a £26m deal with Napoli to sell midfielder Scott McTominay, while United star Hannibal Mejbri will move to Burnley for up to £9.5m.

McTominay travelled to Italy on Tuesday to finalise his departure from United, while Mejbri underwent part of his medical on Monday night.

Ugarte did not feature in PSG’s first two Ligue 1 games of the new season, despite making it clear he wanted a move to United.

The midfielder becomes Erik ten Hag’s fifth signing of the summer transfer window.

The Dutchman has so far called up striker Joshua Zirkzee, central defenders Matthijs de Ligt and Lenny Yolo, and full-back Nousser Mazraoui, and is primarily focused on strengthening United’s defence.

Ugarte, who is expected to form a back four alongside Coby Mainou, posted a cryptic message on social media before leaving for England, warning fans of his impending move to Old Trafford.

The Uruguayan kept his post short and sweet, tweeting nothing but an eye emoji suggesting there is truth to the rumours linking him with United.

Ugarte made 37 appearances for the French powerhouse last season, helping the club win Ligue 1 and the Coupe de France.

Before his move to Parc de Princes, he made 85 appearances over two years with Sporting Lisbon, initially starting his Portuguese club career with Famalição.

Ugarte also made 22 international appearances for Uruguay.

McTominay leaves Old Trafford after having spent his entire club career in Manchester, where he first broke into United’s youth team aged just five.

McTominay’s last appearance for United came in Saturday’s 2-1 defeat at Brighton.
