The search for missing teenager Jay Slater has taken a new turn after a former senior Scotland Yard police officer warned of Spanish investigators’ approach to an Airbnb where a Brit was staying.

Graham Wetton, who worked at the Metropolitan Museum of Art for 30 years, appealed to Spanish police to accept help from British police.

Claiming that a remote Airbnb for £40 could attract interest. The property was where Jay was taken in a car by two Brits after a wild afterparty at the Playa de las Americas resort.

Jay has been missing since June 17 after a three-day music festival and former officer Graham believes something “very strange” has happened. Little is known about the two men, who are in their late 30s or early 40s.

Spanish police believe the pair are “unrelated” to the incident. He told MailOnline: “I’m following this case closely and discussing it with my colleagues and it’s really strange. A lot of things just don’t add up. The authorities should accept the offer of help from Lancashire Police.”

He added: “I’m sure the Spanish police have their details on file and, with the help of the UK police, they can go back and investigate if necessary.

“I know some people are saying these guys should have been detained, but unless there’s really incriminating evidence, it’s going to be hard to detain them in Spain.

“So I’m going to start over and interview all the witnesses again because my gut feeling is that a lot of them may not be telling the truth. “We hope they’ll at least secure the Airbnb as we need to gather any evidence we have,” he said, urging them to now “go back to the starting point” and search for the 19-year-old from there.

The apprentice bricklayer, from Oswaldtwistle, Lancashire, was last heard from on Monday morning when he called his girlfriend Lucy Law, who was staying with him, as he was walking home and his phone had made two calls before going blank. A search of the area where his phone was last found was called off on Sunday, but emergency services were unsuccessful

Crime reporter Ira Traquair reported: “The two men he was staying with had met three days earlier. They had been hanging out together and had become friends during the holiday. They weren’t just some random couple he met that night. They developed a friendship and Brad said they seemed like really cool guys.”
