Upon arrival, the Ruler of Sharjah unveiled a plaque announcing the opening of the headquarters, warmly welcomed a large number of theater artists from Arab countries, expressed his joy on their stay in Sharjah, and celebrated the inauguration of the headquarters. authority.

The Ruler of Sharjah gave a speech during the event, expressing his gratitude to the theater and its community. He also announced the granting of financial donations to support the activities of the Authority and emphasized the importance of theater as a fundamental element of culture for the further development and enrichment of society.

He reiterated his determination to continue supporting theaters and their communities in all Arab countries until they are restored to their former glory.

The Ruler of Sharjah inspected the institute’s main offices, which consist of two adjacent buildings. These buildings are traditional historical houses that were rebuilt as part of the restoration of Al Hila Old City.

During the tour, he gave an overview of the various facilities, including administrative and professional departments, libraries, publishing, training departments, qualification departments, school theaters, digital libraries, and the Arabic Materials and Theater Research Center.

The headquarters is built in traditional Emirati architectural style and is equipped with all modern facilities. The design features intricate wood carvings and stucco decorations, typical of the region’s traditional architecture. The building and its surroundings are also equipped with various services and infrastructure to facilitate visitors’ access to the Institute.

Ismail Abdullah, Secretary-General of the Arab Theater Institute, expressed the joy of the theater community in his speech at the opening ceremony at the Institute’s headquarters. He expressed his gratitude to the Ruler of Sharjah for his continued support and efforts in nurturing and promoting theater and its practitioners.

Mr. Abdullah emphasized that the new headquarters will be a source of inspiration for all Arab theater artists and a motivation for further progress.

The Secretary-General emphasised that backing Arab theatre entails greater accountability for the theatre’s purpose and the endeavours of the playwrights. This comes as the ATI strives to enhance theatre in all Arab cities and raise the standard of every Arab theatre.

For their part, Arab artists from various Arab countries saluted the Ruler of Sharjah and expressed their happiness and pride in his unlimited support, and the opening of the Authority’s headquarters to be an open house for Arab playwrights.

The headquarters’ opening ceremony was attended, alongside the Ruler of Sharjah, by Abdullah bin Mohammed Al Owais, Head of the Department of Culture; Dr. Salah Butti Al Muhairi, Head of the Initiatives Implementation Authority “Mubadara”; Mohammed Obaid Al Zaabi, Head of the Ceremonies and Hospitality Department; and numerous theatre people from various Arab countries.
