A heroic dance teacher who was stabbed multiple times while fighting to save children from a stabber in Southport is on the “road to recovery” after another life-saving operation.
The latest update on Leanne Lucas’ condition came from her best friend of 20 years, Esther Charroudy, who shared her fate with the community on social media. Yoga teacher Leanne (35) was stabbed in the back.
neck and arm while “bravely trying to protect children” at a Taylor Swift-themed dance party last month. After being released from hospital, Leanne was left “disheartened and frustrated” when she was readmitted with a lung infection and difficulty breathing.
Surgery to place drains in her lungs was successful and the teacher is now awaiting “further tests” before discussing further plans for her discharge, Esther said. She wrote: “After a few down days Leanne is having a good day today.
“Thank you to everyone for the kind comments, messages of support and well wishes, they mean so much to us.
We have received lovely messages from people who have written poems for Leanne or made handmade presents for her which we are so grateful for.”
Esther also revealed that Leanne had been in contact with other victims, who she says remember the attack but have no recollection of the shocking event. The attack left three girls dead and 10 other children injured, shocking the nation and sparked riots across the UK.
People dressed in pastel colours lined the streets of the coastal town on Friday for the funeral of seven-year-old Elsie Dot Stancombe. Little Bebe King, 6, and Alice da Silva Aguiar, 9, had died earlier in the attack. A GoFundMe page set up for Leanne has raised more than £35,000.
