Don’t fall for fake news – it was not cloud seeding that caused heavy rains in the UAE, the Met Office has confirmed in an exclusive interview with UAE Breaking News.
Dr Habib Ahmed, a senior meteorologist at the National Center of Meteorology (NCM) explained that not a single cloud seeding flight was done during the period that the unstable weather situation lasted in the country.
“No, there was no cloud seeding done,” he said, urging people not to believe the misinformation being spread by some media houses and social media accounts.
Weather situation in the region
The NCM was closely analysing the weather situation developing in the region, especially the neighbouring parts of Saudi Arabia and Oman.
“We monitored the situation well in advance,” he said.
On Thursday, April 11, the NCM issued a warning of unstable weather, rainfall, strong winds, sandstorms, thunderstorms and hail across the country.
The NCM alert clearly states that rain-bearing clouds originating from the western part of the country will move across the country from Sunday, causing rain of varying intensity.
“Weather conditions were very strong across the region,” he explained. Habib.
“A very deep low pressure system entered our country from the southwest and Oman.At the same time, there was a deep low pressure system over the UAE. Since Sunday, moist air has also moved from the Arabian Sea towards the United Arab Emirates and Oman. This was the cause of the country’s unstable weather.
“Extremely strong winds and downdrafts suddenly moved a humid cloud that had been forming south of Oman and Saudi Arabia over the United Arab Emirates.”As we analyzed, on Monday And on Tuesday we had two waves of very strong downpours and thunderstorms,” he explained.
Weather conditions are expected to be stable in the coming days
Weather conditions are expected to be stable over the next few days. Experts said cloudy days are likely to continue in Al Ain and its surrounding areas.
“Temperatures are expected to gradually increase in the coming days,” he added.
