The UAE experienced the highest rainfall in its modern history on April 16, which left residents grappling with flooded homes and praying for safety. Many buildings, villas, and townhouse communities in Sharjah and Dubai have been without electricity following heavy downpours since Tuesday.
Power and internet have been cut off in some apartment complexes in Sharjah’s Al Majaz area since 3am today as flooding began on Tuesday afternoon and rainwater entered elevators.
“The building has been without power since 3am, so there is no internet at the moment. Fortunately, there is no running water at the moment, so we were able to get buckets of water even after the power went out,” said Sharjah. said Umm E Ayman, a resident.
She went on to say: She said: “We can’t go anywhere because the whole area is flooded.” We were going to the mall and driving around when the power went out in the building. But even that is no longer an option.
There is a supermarket just 50 meters away, but you can’t go there because the entire street is flooded and you can’t even see the sidewalk leading to the supermarket. The community doesn’t have that.
I can’t do anything right now, including going to a cafe, because the roads are flooded. ” We are unable to leave our community due to water entering our four-wheel. That’s why we can’t leave our homes,” said Chawla, who has lived in Dubai for many years.
Missing during remote classes
Poonam’s children are unable to attend online classes. “We hope that life will return to normal soon.”
Echoing Poonam, Umme-e-Aiman said her daughters are also attending online classes as there is no electricity or running water. He said he couldn’t do it.
“Yesterday everything was fine and the children were able to attend online courses. However, that is not possible today and that does not only apply to my daughters. Many other children in the school are not able to do distance learning,” she added.
