UAE Heavy rains again’ LIVE: Several flights cancelled, services suspended

An orange warning was issued on Thursday as the United Arab Emirates (UAE) was hit by heavy rain and thunderstorms.

Many residents did not have to leave their homes to go to work today, but some woke up early as rain and strong winds battered the neighborhood. A waterfall was flowing north while black rain clouds hovered over the mountain.

For the past few days, the UAE has been preparing for this wave of volatile weather. This wave is expected to peak from today, May 2nd, until tomorrow, May 3rd. Security alerts are being issued in all areas. Schools are relying on distance learning, while businesses are being asked to ask employees to work from home. Parks and beaches were closed. Airports and airlines are also preparing for the impact.

Heavy rain has been hitting this country since midnight. According to a National Center of Meteorology (NCM) warning, showers and lightning struck Dubai as early as 2:35am.

These rains are not expected to be as heavy as the unprecedented downpours that hit the country earlier this month, but the public is urged to take precautions.

11:35am: Underground parking issue resolved

This time, buildings in Sharjah are not in any danger. Many have barricaded underground parking lots to prevent water from entering.

Dubai’s RTA temporarily suspends the operations of intercity buses due to the adverse weather conditions.

10:25am: Driver’s Guide

Dubai Police is closely monitoring the situation on roads around the emirate. Some areas have installed traffic cones to prevent cars from driving into ponds, while others have closed certain roads.

Police officers wore raincoats and jackets and worked around the clock to ensure smooth flow of traffic.

10:15am: Some roads are flooded

Some roads in Sharjah are already flooded, particularly in the emirate’s Al Nahda region, but vehicles can still pass.

Teams in Dubai help the public with everything from directing traffic to clearing fallen trees. They are deployed wearing rain boots and raincoats to ensure safety.

9:40am: Water ponds on the highway

Sheikh Zayed Water ponds have begun to form on some roads. Dubai.

Authorities advised drivers to be careful on the roads.

9:32am: Emirates cancels flights

Due to bad weather in the United Arab Emirates on Thursday, Emirates canceled several flights.

Flight operations at Dubai International Airport (DXB) have also been reduced.
