Police urged drivers in Dubai to drive with caution as rain fell across the emirate on Monday afternoon. Center of Meteorology (NCM) issued amber and yellow warnings, urging the public to be aware of dangerous weather conditions and follow safety advice from authorities.
Heavy rain was reported in the areas of Emirates Road, Arabian Ranches, Al Twar and Mohammed Bin Zayed Road. “Due to the current rainfall, we appeal to all road users in Dubai to drive with caution and check the latest weather conditions from official sources,” Dubai Police wrote on social media platform X.
The NCM warning will continue until 9pm on Monday. Thunder was also heard in parts of Dubai.
Moderate rains were also reported in Al Ain and Sharjah. Dubai was hit by heavy flooding in April this year. The NCM said the rainfall was the highest since official weather records began in 1949. Rain is not uncommon in September in the Emirates as summer gives way to cooler autumn and winter weather.
In its latest five-day forecast, the NCM said more unsettled weather is expected this week. The Meteorological Center has predicted that rain is possible in the eastern and southern parts of the country on Tuesday. Fog is expected in some inland and coastal areas on Thursday and Friday.
