By directives of President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, February 28 has been declared the annual Emirati Education Day.
The day recognises the vital role of education in the development and progress of the UAE and its contribution to the country’s social growth and cultural renaissance.
His Highness stressed that since its founding, the UAE has recognised the importance of education and placed it at the heart of its development plans. He noted that education has always been seen as a driving force for the country’s progress and cultural development.
Recognising the important role of education in the UAE’s development vision and expressing his gratitude to all those involved in the education system, His Highness said that February 28 is celebrated annually as Emirati Education Day.
The day is of historical importance as it marks the graduation of the first group of teachers from UAE University in 1982, and the ceremony was also attended by the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, the founding father of the UAE, as well as other rulers of the UAE.
His Highness stressed that strengthening the foundations of education and continuously raising its profile has been and will remain a top priority for the UAE since its founding and throughout every stage of its development.
Designating this day as part of the UAE’s national agenda reflects the leadership’s unwavering belief in the value of education and its vital role in serving as a key driver of development and progress, nurturing generations and advancing the nation.
Education is at the heart of the UAE’s leadership and an integral part of its comprehensive, forward-looking vision. It was created as a foundation for building a knowledge-based society deeply rooted in Emirati values, traditions and identity. By prioritizing human development, empowering individuals and strengthening capabilities, the UAE aims to accelerate the country’s sustainable development for current and future generations.
