The siblings urged residents to join them in recognising the efforts of maintenance workers, security guards, and domestic helpers
When record-breaking rains hit the UAE on April 16, siblings Tasneem, aged 12, and Burhanuddin, aged 9, residents of Autumn 2A in JVC, witnessed the tireless efforts of maintenance workers, security guards, and domestic helpers in their apartment complex.
Inspired by their dedication, the siblings embarked on a heart-warming initiative to show appreciation for the workers.
The brothers faced challenges in their communities, including leaky homes, power outages, flooding, and food shortages.
“Through everything that is happening in and around the complex, we are grateful to the extraordinary maintenance staff, security guards and housekeepers who worked tirelessly to help the residents and ease our burden. I saw the hard work that went into it,” Tasneem said.
The brother and sister decided to express their gratitude to the unsung heroes. “We knocked on the doors of more than 150 apartments in the building and collected a total of Dh3,450 from residents,” Tasneem said.
The brothers went one step further and created a heartfelt poster asking apartment residents to donate to honor the dedicated workers of the community.
They used colorful pens and a touch of creativity to write messages and invited residents to join in honouring the efforts of the maintenance workers, security guards and housekeepers.
With the funds raised, they held an awards ceremony on May 1, where they recognised 25 community workers and gave them shopping cards worth 140 dirhams each.
“Recognising the contributions of these people during these difficult times is a small token of our appreciation from us,” Tasneem said.
“We wanted to do something for them as they are working overtime to make the lives of our residents easier. Their compassion and support for nature is worthy of recognition and giving them the vouchers was the least we could do,” Tasneem added.
Their mission to collect the amount started on April 19th and continued till April 30th. The award ceremony was held on May 1st.
“We are grateful to all of our donors who have generously donated to this cause,” Tasneem said.
