Meteorologists said temperatures would rise to as high as 34 degrees as the end of summer begins across the UK. An unsettled start to the summer has been a major theme throughout June and July in the UK.
But August could be an even hotter month, with temperatures expected to rise this weekend. A scorching heatwave could affect large swaths of the country from Saturday, August 10th until Monday, August 12th.
Weather maps show the heatwave is moving through Central Europe, possibly caused by a smoke cloud over North Africa. While most of the south, east, west and central parts of England will enjoy these temperatures, northern cities may not be so lucky.
Jim Dale, founder of the UK Met Office, told uaebreaking.co.uk: England and East Anglia are expected to see temperatures of 33 to 34 degrees Celsius until Monday.
“The north-west of England will be hit by heavy rains, which will likely make it the hottest day of the year. Globally,
The UK has not experienced any extreme heat this year, but rather mild weather.” Overall, this has been maintained. In Europe, heatwaves have hit popular holiday destinations such as Spain and Greece, with temperatures well above 40 degrees Celsius recorded on consecutive days.
Dale said this pattern will continue and there are no signs of the devastating heatwaves abating. “Many parts of Europe are expected to experience their hottest period of the year so far, with widespread temperatures reaching 35 to 40 degrees or more, and climate change is already on the horizon.”
According to the weather charts, Friday will be relatively warm, with a maximum of 25 degrees in the South East and London. Temperatures will be one to two degrees cooler in the Midlands and northern cities. These thermometer readings will gradually rise over the weekend.
However, WXCHARTS predicts that a maximum temperature of 32 degrees is expected on Monday, with a scorching heatwave hitting Greater London and its suburbs. By the middle of next week, those dizzying highs are expected to drop to the mid to low 20s.
In a Netweather analysis of mid-August for this weekend and into next week, forecasters said: Eastern England is likely to experience frequent dry and warm spells, particularly early in the week.”
“It will be very hot at times in France and Spain, meaning that in the southeast it may only be very hot for a day or two, and as the heat subsides there may be southerly winds and thunderstorms.
“The 12th August in particular could be a very hot day for the south-east, although it remains to be seen whether the very hot airmass over France will reach the south-east of England on that day.”
Dale added that the rest of the summer would follow a similar pattern, with temperatures fluctuating throughout the summer. He added: “It’s going to get warmer in the long term. I’m now thinking of September as the ‘new summer month’ so there’s still plenty of time for another 30 degree stretch.
“That could be either late August or early September,” he added. “So most things are still uncertain in this changing climate we’re in.”
