A colorful Google Doodle has been unveiled in celebration of British singer-songwriter Lizzy Emme, who pushed boundaries with her first album, Loud and Proud, released on this day in 2009. Emme was born in Notting Hill and her parents told her she would never walk or talk, but at the age of four, she defied the odds.

With Loud and Proud, she became the first person with a learning disability to release a national album in the UK. Emme performed in front of the largest crowd in the world at the opening ceremony of the 2021 Paralympics in London, with millions watching.

The award-winning artist passed away in November 2021 at the age of 44. A posthumous album titled “Listen to Lizzy” was released in 2023.

Google said in its Google Doodle information: “Eme has received several national awards for her contributions to music and her legacy can be explored through her album, which is written directly from the heart.

She will also be remembered for championing the rights of people with learning disabilities and inspiring more people with disabilities to enter the music industry. Thank you, Lizzy Emme, for sharing your story and musical talent with the world!
