Zoe Ball has once again disappeared from BBC Radio 2’s Breakfast Show for another week, her mysterious absence continuing.
Scott Mills will continue to fill in for Zoe on the show. According to the schedule, he will be at the helm from Monday to Friday, with DJ Spoony and OJ Borg taking over Scott’s usual afternoon slot.
Zoe has not hosted the Breakfast Show since August 8, and Gaby Roslin and Scott have been filling in for her since then. A BBC spokesperson said Zoe will return later this month, but there is no confirmation yet as to when she will return.
When Scott took over the breakfast show on August 12 he did not expect to be catapulted to the top spot, and he spoke about the situation by admitting: He told listeners: “Set your alarm for 6.30am every morning and don’t panic if Zoe always turns up – you didn’t oversleep. If you’ve just tuned in this morning, Scott Mills will be filling in for Zoe for the next few weeks. Sending all my love to you, Zoe and the team as well.”
The news has caused concern among fans who speculate about Zoe’s well-being, while there is growing frustration that the DJ continues to be absent from the airwaves – despite still receiving a handsome salary from the BBC.
Adding a further twist to Zoe’s five-week absence, a source added to Mail Online this week: “No one knows what happened but everyone loves Zoe.” Zoe is hugely popular with the BBC so it’s quite remarkable that she’s no longer with us.”
Zoe went off the air earlier this year due to personal losses and health problems. She was diagnosed with cancer, endured the grief of the death of her mother in April and underwent emergency dental surgery.
Zoe Ball can choose the terms of her contract. She’s never worked and has more holiday than you’d imagine. Are we really paying a damn thing for this?” No comments.”
Another person echoed this sentiment, saying: “Why is the BBC still paying Zoe Ball if she’s not even on air yet?” Please remove them for those who want to work the early shift. Just saying.”
