Following Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s shocking interview with US television host Oprah Winfrey in March 2021, reporters flocked to the royal residence to await their response.
Shortly after stepping down as senior working royals in 2020, the Montecito-based duo gave an exclusive interview to the TV host.
During the interview, Harry and Meghan Markle claimed that an unidentified member of the Royal Family was concerned about their firstborn son, Prince Archie.
“Concerns and conversations about how dark his skin might be when he’s born,” according to Meghan.
Prince William was questioned about whether he had spoken to his brother during an engagement the following day, despite the fact that the Royal Family had chosen not to comment on the allegations.
When he was asked if he had spoken to Harry after the interview, the heir to the throne and his wife, Princess Kate, were at a school in Stratford, east London.
William slammed the situation with 11 words: No, I have not yet spoken with him, but I will.
In a 2023 ITV interview with Tom Bradby, Prince Harry appeared to rebut his previous remarks about the Company, drawing criticism from viewers.
Bradby inquired of the king: “No,” Harry interjected, “you accuse members of your family of racism in the Oprah interview.” That was reported by British media, right? Have you ever heard Meghan say, “They’re racists?”
Harry went on to explain: Racism and unconscious bias are not the same thing. They are two different things.”
Nearly two years after the couple’s interview with Oprah Winfrey, in which they accused an unidentified member of the Royal Family of questioning the color of their then-unborn son’s skin, Harry denied labeling the Royal Family as racist in the interview.
The royal author Tom Quinn acknowledged that the Montecito-based couple felt the same way about the interview.
He stated this to The Mirror: Because it did not result in the outcome that he and Meghan desired, Harry does regret the Oprah interview.
“Their friends persuaded them that the world would be interested in hearing “their truth,” but instead they were widely ridiculed and criticized, and the Royal Family completely cut them off.
“Despite their flaws, Harry really misses his family. He is stranded in Montecito with nothing to do and no way to return to his life prior to meeting Meghan.
The last time Prince Harry saw his father, King Charles, was in February 2024, shortly after his cancer diagnosis was made public. Despite Harry and William’s attendance at his uncle Lord Robert Fellowes’ private service in August, it is believed that the two brothers “kept their distance” and barely spoke.
Due to security concerns, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex have only traveled to the UK a few times since their decision to step down as working members of the Royal Family.
