Passengers on a rollercoaster in Kent were left shocked when the track began to collapse in front of them mid-ride.
The footage was captured on Dreamland Margate’s Scenic Railway Ride, Britain’s oldest rollercoaster.
Theme park enthusiast Andre Beaumans captured the footage and told Kent Live:
Most of my friends had boarded the scenic railway before me but I decided to wait for another lap so I could sit at the front and film the experience.
“They’d finished their journey as usual and now it was my turn.” The first half of the trip went as normal as usual. After getting off the second lift, they noticed something on the tracks.
“The train moved slightly sideways and it felt like the brakes were too hard. As the train reversed you could see the damage it had done to the track.”
Passengers were escorted to safety by staff and the service has been closed since the incident on August 10.
After the ride was halted, passengers could be heard talking tensely as they realised something was wrong. No one was injured.
They can then be heard discussing nervously as they notice the wooden slats have been damaged.
Andre informed the employees of the video he recorded and offered to help investigate the incident.
But it didn’t ruin his day. “After it was all over, I reunited with my friends and we had a lot of fun the rest of the day and went on lots of other rides.”
Last year, a man who put a huge crack in a rollercoaster support column hundreds of feet above sea level was spotted as families rode past on the ride.
Wagner’s video footage from last Friday shows a close-up of the Fury 325 as packed carriages pass by.
The 325-foot-tall Fury 325 is one of Carowinds’ premier attractions. It can carry dozens of riders and send them hurtling through the air at speeds of up to 95 mph during rides that last more than three minutes, according to the park’s website.
Police were able to close the ride for repairs before anyone was injured.
