Horrifying incidents of violence have occurred across the country since three girls were stabbed to death at a dance event in Southport. The escalating violence has continued over the weekend, with 378 arrests made so far. The National Police Chiefs Council (NPCC) has warned that the numbers will rise with each passing day.

The horrific scenes will continue this week as thousands of extremists received messages on Wednesday urging them to “wear a mask”. The Express reports that they have been ordered to attend demonstrations (up to 39 are planned) and that they will be “threatened” if they do not.

Recent scenes of widespread and ongoing violence included rioters smashing windows and setting fire to a Holiday Inn Express in Rotherham over the weekend. Masked men in a crowd of more than 700 threw pieces of wood, chairs and bottles, while some police sprayed the building with fire extinguishers. At least 10 police officers were injured and one was left unconscious, according to South Yorkshire Police.

A similar incident occurred on Sunday evening at a Holiday Inn hotel in Tamworth, Staffordshire, which was reportedly also hosting asylum seekers. Staffordshire Police said thugs set fires, smashed windows and threw projectiles at police officers. The same afternoon in Middlesbrough, a group of rioters smashed windows of houses and cars and threw objects at police officers.

Cleveland Police said 43 arrests had been made and significant damage had been caused to the Crown Court and university buildings. Greater Manchester Police used its powers in light of the rioting in Bolton, ordering people to remove “face coverings designed to obscure or conceal their appearance”.

Prime Minister Keir Starmer was asked to recall Parliament. He said a “standing army” of specialist police officers would be created to deal with riots and disorder. After the Cobra crisis meeting, the Prime Minister said “a number of measures have emerged from the meeting”. First, we will create a standing force of specialized officers to ensure we have enough officers to intervene wherever necessary.

“Second, we will strengthen the criminal justice system. Hundreds of people have already been arrested and some appeared in court this morning. I have asked that the names and identities of those involved in the proceedings be disclosed and identified as soon as possible so that they can feel the full force of the law. “

Meanwhile, the chairman of the National Council of Chiefs of Police, Gavin Stevens, stressed that the police are “anti-crime”, not “anti-protest”. He said: “We are doing everything we can to combat this unrest and ensure your safety.” No matter what you believe, we are here to protect our people and maintain peace.”
