Lucknow Super Giants defeated Mumbai Indians by four wickets at the Ekana Stadium in Lucknow.
Mumbai Indians (MI) lost to Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) by four wickets in match 49 of IPL 2024 at Ekana Stadium in Lucknow. LSG captain KL Rahul won the toss and was elected to bowl and MI posted a score of 145 for LSG. LSG won the home game thanks to Marcus Stoinis’ exceptional batting performance. MI’s batting line-up failed against LSG’s bowlers. Ishan Kishan and Nehal Wadera scored 32 and 46 points respectively.
Meanwhile, LSG got off to a great start by scoring 57 in 7 overs. Skipper and in-form batsman KL Rahul unfortunately failed to score any runs in the match against Mumbai Indians. However, when Marcus Stoinis came into bat, he hit a boundary and helped LSG score 116 runs in 15 overs. This was not a difficult goal for LSG, as the team has set a goal of scoring over 200 points this season, and the second team is also aiming for that.
Difficult situation for Mumbai Indians in IPL 2024
Mumbai Indians have fallen to 9th place in the table after losing to Lucknow Super Giants. His net run percentage was -0.272 and he had a dismal 6 points in 10 games. This loss will prevent MI from making it to the playoffs of IPL 2024.
From 2022, there will be 10 teams in the T20 league and franchises will need to score at least 16 points to finish in the top four. In the IPL 2024 league stage, Mumbai Indians have four matches left for him. Even if MI were to win all four points, their total points would be just 14.
Even if Mumbai Indians are not officially eliminated from the tournament, only a mathematical miracle would see them finish in fourth place and qualify for the postseason. To do so, MI would need to win each of their last four matches by a clear margin. Furthermore, none of the other six teams are allowed to finish with less than 12 points, which is highly unlikely. Instead, the top three teams would need to finish with 16 points or more.
If multiple teams finish the iPL league stage with 14 points, Mumbai Indians would need to achieve a better net run-rate than the other teams to advance to the iPL 2024 playoffs.
